About

In 1997 the World Bowls Tour (WBT) was created under the then chairman Richard Corsie.  As an International Sports Organisation its primary function is to promote indoor bowls worldwide.  Its partner organisation, the Professional Bowls Association (PBA), run qualifying competitions worldwide to compete at their WBT events.  They have several branches worldwide including South Africa amongst the 8 other countries.

The PBA of South Africa was initially formed in 2001 staging qualifying events successfully for many years.  However due to a lack of sponsorship the local PBA needed some new innovations to get back on track.  In January 2023, a new committee was formed with a generous sponsorship from Fairtree Invest.  It was decided to stage the newly planned qualifying tournament at Durbanville Bowling Club.

The event takes place from the 3rd to the 6th of August 2023 with a different playing format from previous years.  Sixty-four players will compete for a single and pairs spot at the World Indoor Championship at Potters Resort in the UK as well as an entry for the Scottish International.

With many of South Africa’s international players included in the field for this year’s qualifying event we are looking forward to a spectacular tournament with lucrative prize money on offer.  With such an exciting platform created it enables all players an opportunity to compete and rub shoulders with the very best in the world.
